A Distinctive Vacation Option: Yacht Charters in Positano, Italy
The village of Positano on the Amalfi Coast of Italy is a dreamlike place that is so very real. Sitting on the edge of the hillside and dipping its toes in the Mediterranean, Positano is a popular destination for yacht charters, but that wasn’t always so. This former fishing town has an interesting history related to the church of Santa Maria Assunta. The church features a beautiful domed roof of majolica tiles, but its most discussed feature is the 13 th century Byzantine statue of a black Madonna. The story goes that pirates stole the icon and then began to sail across the Mediterranean when a storm arose and a voice was heard saying “Put down! Put down!” The pirates were so frightened that they unloaded the Madonna at the nearest village – Positano – and hurried on their way over the now calm waters.

Positano
Many famous individuals, including author John Steinbeck and Rolling Stones members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, enjoy the dreamy quality of Positano. Yacht charters allow for the full romantic experience, as the gentle lapping of the waves draw you towards the village. The picturesque view of buildings clinging to cliffs is unmatched along this stretch of coast and the area offers many activities for an enjoyable visit.
The beaches along the coast are unique in that the sand is gray in color and interspersed with volcanic rock. The central Spiaggia Grande is near the marina and touts shopping, restaurants, and taverns. Free public beaches, located at Fornillo, La Porta, and Arienzo, offer areas for sunbathing and swimming as well as access to drinks and food and beach accessories, such as umbrellas.
The Santa Maria Assunta cathedral is not the only historical site in Positano. The Grotta la Porta is a cave in which prehistoric remains have been discovered. The islands of Castelluccio, Rotunda, and Gallo Lungo are believed to be the home of the Sirens of Greek mythology. Individuals may visit the town of Nocelle, the peaks of Monte Sant’ Angelo, and the Ponte dei Libri Bridge. Yacht charter guests often tour Via Positanesa d’America, which is a walkway along the cliff. The area boasts many lush gardens full of scented citrus and olive groves, including the colorful gardens of the Positano Botanical Gardens.
Whether you’re hiking the many trails, lounging along the shore, or enjoying the fresh fish and Italian specialties, a yacht charter stop at Positano is a dream worth making a reality.
